North India: The plains of north India, namely, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and west Uttar Pradesh will have continuous rain for the next couple of days. Rain could be moderate with heavy in many pockets on the 31st July and 1st of August. On 2nd and 3rd August rain may become scanty, temperatures may rise up to 36⁰C and humidity levels could be intolerably high. However, 4th and 5th of August will again see rain picking up in the plains but will not be heavy this time. Temperatures in the plains, on days of good rain may stay in the range of 32 to 34 degree Celsius.
Up in the hills, Uttarakhand and Himachal may once again receive heavy rain on the 31st and 1st. Rain will decrease thereafter but will continue all week. Parts of south Jammu and Kashmir may also receive rain this week but it will mainly be light. Temperatures in the hills will fall by 2 to 3 degree Celsius due to rain.
East and Northeast India: Parts of east India may receive little rain during the initial days but rain towards the end of the week may increase as a fresh cyclonic circulation of the Bay of Bengal may affect the region. Jharkhand, Orissa and gangetic West Bengal will be the first to receive moderate rain from 31st onwards. The gradual shift of the system towards the north will then give rain over east Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and sub Himalayan West Bengal from the 3rd or 4th of August, till the 6th of August. Temperatures, currently in the mid thirties, may fall by 3 to 4 degrees over most parts of east India.
Weather models show, entire northeast India may continue to have mainly light rain with isolated moderate over upper Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. But since rain has failed to pick up even now, the rain deficit being faced is not likely to get covered up. Temperatures will be high at most places, by about 2 to 3 degrees.
Central India : Rain will continue in almost entire central India this week. Our weathermen tell us there are no signs of dry weather for days to come. Parts of Madhya Pradesh, south Chhattisgarh and Vidharbha could receive moderate to heavy rain by middle of the week. East Gujarat and east Rajasthan may also continue to have rain but mainly light in nature. Temperatures will be 3 to 5 degrees below normal in these areas.
Pockets of Telangana could also receive light rain this week. North Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada may be the only places in central India to receive scattered and scanty rain. Weather will be mainly cloudy and temperatures may rise but only marginally.
South India: This will mostly be a lull week for south India as rain will be little to very little at most parts. From very heavy downpour, rain in Mumbai and entire west coast of India will come down to 20 or 30mm as no strong monsoon surge seems to be affecting the west coast. Besides, rain will only be moderate up to the Karnataka coast. Kerala coast may receive even lesser rain. Orissa and north Andhra coast in the east will only have light rain. Tamil Nadu, Rayalseema, will remain mainly dry with temperatures rising up to 37⁰C. The interior of south India is expected to have mostly dry weather with little chances of rain of up to 5mm or below. In spite of almost no rain interior Karnataka will continue to be the coolest in India due to its proximity to the hills and strong breeze from the sea.
