A western disturbance has reached North India at this time due to which a cyclonic circulation has developed over Rajasthan and adjoining areas. This system is not as effective as the previous ones, so there is no possibility of heavy rain or snowfall on the mountains or on the plains. But the change in the weather conditions will come from the mountains to the plains.

It is expected that light rain may occur at some places in Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Ladakh and northern parts of Himachal Pradesh. Light snowfall can also be seen in Kashmir and Himachal and in the high altitude areas of Ladakh.

Due to western disturbances and circulation, the trend of winds has already changed and in some areas of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Western Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan. The winds have started slowing down due to which the temperature drop has stopped and in many cities along with the severe cold wave, frost providing relief for some time.

In the past, Sikar, Churu and Amritsar are cities in the plains of North India where the temperature reached below zero. On 20 December, the coldest cities of North India were Amritsar, Churu, Sikar, Narnaul, Bhilwara, Fursatganj, Shahjahanpur, Pilani, Hisar and Bareilly. Temperatures in these cities were recorded between 1 and 3 degrees Celsius. Amritsar recorded the lowest temperature at 1 degree Celsius followed by Churu at 1.6 degrees.

But now on December 21, the weather will bring more changes. The minimum temperature will increase further. The plains of North-West India including Amritsar, Churu, Sikar, Narnaul will reach near normal in the mercury which will reduce the winter. Day temperatures have now reached near normal in cities of North India including Delhi. Fog may occur in some places, but it will not increase further, night temperatures will increase.
