The weather over entire India will be going through a changeover period. Let us have a look at what the weather will be like in five major cities of the country in the month of February.
Weather in Mumbai
Weather of Mumbai remained warm and humid since January 28. Minimum temperatures were observed near normal, while days remained warm with clear sky conditions.
The typical winter chill was felt between January 10 and 14, when night temperatures dropped to 11.9°C, far below normal.
As of now, no significant change in temperatures are expected, however by February 6 and 7, minimums can drop by 2 to 3°C. This drop in temperature can be credited to the change in wind direction, but the weather will remain dry.
Average maximum temperature for the month of February is 31.2°C, while average minimum temperature is 17.8°C and average rainfall for the month is 1.3 mm.
Weather in Delhi
Temperatures of Delhi remained below normal between January 10 and 21. Delhiites experienced the winter chill as the minimums reached 3.2°C on January 4. This was the lowest of the season. Since then, temperatures remained above normal by 2 to 3°C.
Today as well, Delhi recorded a minimum of 9.5°C which is just 1 degree above normal.
Due to an active western disturbance between January 25 and 26 the national capital received 30 mm of rainfall; this was the highest during the month of January of this century.
Since then the weather remained dry, but now due a fresh Western Disturbance approaching, and its induced cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan, Delhi may witness few fresh spells of rain by February 4 or 5. Thereafter, minimums will drop by 2 to 3°C over Delhi and NCR region.
Weather in Kolkata
Weather over the city remained dry throughout January, with only light rain which was observed around January 27.
Average rainfall for the month of January is 11.7 mm but Kolkata received only 0.1 mm of rainfall.
In fact, similar weather conditions were observed with the commencement of February as well.
At present, temperatures are settling near normal, but since last few days they were marginally above normal. In the coming days, no significant weather activity is expected. Weather will stay dry with clear sky conditions.
Average maximum temperature for the month of February is 29.1°C, while average minimum temperature is 17.3°C and average rainfall for the month is 30.7 mm.
Weather in Chennai
Minimum temperatures over the city remained above normal during much of January. Highest maximum temperature recorded was 25.7°C on January 26.
As of now, both day and night temperatures are settling near normal.
Average rainfall for the month of January is 22.5 mm, but Chennai received only 5 mm of rainfall.
Till now, dry weather has been observed over the city. As no weather system is foreseen to develop off Chennai Coast, no weather activity is on the cards. Dry weather will continue for another one week.
Average rainfall for the month of February is 2.2 mm, which means the driest month for Chennai.
Weather for Bangalore
Both the months of January and February are considered to be the driest for Bangalore.
Since past few days, both day and night temperatures were settling above normal, leading to dry and warm weather over the city.
Average rainfall for the month of January is 1.9 mm, but the city received only 0.2 mm during the month of January.
In the coming days, no significant weather activity is expected. Weather will remain dry with clear sky conditions. Minimum temperatures will settle near normal, while maximums will be above normal for another one week.
