Weak monsoon conditions coming up for Maharashtra

August 7, 2023 6:07 PM | Skymet Weather Team

During the initial days of monsoon, especially in the month of June, the state of Maharashtra was largely deficient. However, during the end of the month of July, all the landlocked subdivisions of Maharashtra including Marathwada, Vidarbha, as well as Madhya Maharashtra, became surplus by about 13 to 14%.

However, in the last few days, monsoon has remained weak over this region which has resulted in the consumption of that surplus. Now, all these areas are sliding towards the negative side. Marathwada has become 1% deficient, Vidarbha is surplus by 2% only and Madhya Maharashtra has become 7% deficient now.

This deficit is likely to increase over the next 10 days as no monsoon system is expected over the Bay of Bengal which may have given rainfall over these areas. Now the monsoon rains are expected to be governed by the trough which will mostly remain confined to giving rains over the eastern parts of the country.
