On 15th of December last year, the maximum temperature recorded in Shimla was 9 degrees while this year on the same date the maximum settle at 18 degrees. Again, Shimla recorded a maximum of 20 degrees last Saturday on 14th of December but on the same day last year the maximum settled around 13 degrees .This comparison clearly indicates that the first half of December has been warmer this year compared to the previous year.
Similarly, nights in Shimla have been warmer in the first half of December this year. Minimums in the city have twice recorded 5 degrees or below till now but last year the minimums had fallen below 5 degrees over six times.
The reason behind the warmer weather in Shimla is the absence of frequent Western Disturbances that bring snow and rain to the region and cause temperatures to fall. Shimla has not recorded snow or rain during the first two weeks of December this year while last year it had recorded 12 mm of rain during the same period.
