Warmer days approaching Delhi

Delhi has been witnessing warm but pleasant days ever since the beginning of February. However, weather conditions have been indicating a change, with maximum temperatures touching new levels.

On Tuesday, Delhi recorded the highest day maximum of this winter season and of the month at 30.2°C. Earlier on February 19, Safdarjung Observatory had recorded 29.8°C. Both the days witnessed temperatures settling five notches above than the normal.

According to Skymet Weather, normal average temperature of city varies from 23°C to 26°C. Day temperatures settling five degrees above normal is not very common during February. The last time when mercury in the national capital crossed the 30-degree mark was in 2012.

Increasing temperatures are the result of change in wind pattern over the region. Northwesterly winds are paving way for southeasterly winds that are favourable for the further rise in the day temperatures.

Hence in coming days, Delhiites can expect slightly uncomfortable afternoons but pleasant mornings. However, nights will continue to be colder with minimum temperatures hovering around 10°C or 11°C during next few days. The weather will remain dry till the end of this month.

Weather across India including Delhi has been unusually warm this year. Maximum temperatures remained above normal for most of the time. This can be attributed to prolonged presence of El-Nino which is directly associated with warm winters.
