From past a few days, the Gateway to South India, Chennai had been witnessing a dry spell. However, rain gods have become kind again over the city and the region along with other areas of Tamil Nadu recorded some Monsoon showers in the past 48 hours.

During the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Meenambakkam Observatory in Chennai observed 9 mm of rains, while Nungambakkam Observatory recorded 3 mm.

Other areas of Tamil Nadu that recorded some rains include Coonoor that received 16 mm of rainfall, Dharmapuri 16 mm, Kodaikanal 11 mm, Tondi 11 mm, Salem 8 mm, Pamban 4 mm and Madurai 3 mm.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, these rains can be credited to a north-south trough that was seen extending from the Central India to South Tamil Nadu. But as this trough has moved towards the West Coast, rains will now take a back seat again over most parts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai.

Nonetheless, local cloud development may take place due to high temperatures and increased humidity. This may end up giving rains during early morning or evening hours. These showers are likely to be of shorter duration and over limited districts and will not be widespread.

Morning and nights will remain comfortable, but days will be warm and sultry to some extent. As of today, the state of Tamil Nadu is rain surplus by 47 percent and Chennai by 10 percent.
