Maharashtra has been reeling under dry and warm days for the past 15 days. In fact, the last rains that occurred prior to this elongated dry spell were during mid-October when a few stations recorded light rainy traces.
Since then, the weather is mainly dry. Due to such elongated dry and warm spell, the day temperatures have peaked up to several notches. Particularly, the Konkan & Goa region has been witnessing the daytime highs between mid to higher 30’s.
On the other hand, the interior regions of the state are comparatively less warm with the maximums in the range of 32-34 degrees Celsius. In the last 24 hours, Vengurla recorded 37.1°C, Ratnagiri 36.2°C, Mumbai 36°C and Dahanu witnessed the daytime high at 35.9°C.
In general, the coastal areas of the state remain warm during morning and night which is why the minimums across the coastal districts of the state are in lower 20’s. However, now the winter chill is setting up in the interior parts wherein the temperatures have dipped and are now between 11 and 15 degrees Celsius at most places.
The minimum temperatures across the interior districts of the state are also settling in the teens. At present, Vidarbha, Marathwada, and parts of Madhya Maharashtra are also cool. Hence, the diurnal variation is at present high in most parts of Maharashtra.
Due to this wide temperature variation, the days are warm while the nights are cool. Moreover, the weather transition period during morning and evening hours are crucial to health. Similar weather is likely to continue over Maharashtra.
