Warm and humid Chennai weather returns as Northeast Monsoon wraps up

Chennai rains have taken a back seat, paving way for warm and humid weather over the city. With Northeast Monsoon 2017 officially coming to an end on December 31, weather in Chennai has gone mainly dry.

In wake of this, mercury has started rising across the state capital and is settling around 30˚C. Besides this, high levels of humidity have kept the minimum temperatures on the higher side around 22˚C.

According to Skymet Weather, we do not expect any changes in the prevailing weather conditions, at least for the next one week. Sky would be mainly cloudy for most of the days, but rains would remain at bay. One or two spells of very light rain may occur however, chances are very bleak.

Although Monsoon has ended but the humid northeasterly winds are still blowing over the region. Disturbances are still taking place in Bay of Bengal but they are not impacting weather over coastal Tamil Nadu. Thus, Chennai rains would continue to remain far and few in the near future.

Both maximum and minimum temperatures would also not see any changes during this time. In fact, humidity would make the afternoons uncomfortable.

Subsequently after a week or 10 days, weathermen predict a fresh spell of rains over Chennai.
