Chennai mainChennai rains remained far and few during the month of January. In fact, the city witnessed a deficient month in terms of rainfall. The city recorded one fourth of its normal rains resulting in at least a 75 percent of deficiency.

The only time the city could receive little rains were on January 26 and 27. During this period, the city received a mere 5 mm of rainfall against the monthly average of 22.5 mm. These rains occurred due to the presence of a trough of low between Tamil Nadu and the Bay of Bengal.

Due to these rains, the weather conditions were slightly comfortable. However, now, the weather system has moved away and dry and sunny days have taken over. At present, the minimum temperature has come back to their normal levels.

The maximum, on the other hand is settling at 30.6 degree Celsius, which happens to be just a notch above the normal levels.

In the coming days, the weather conditions will remain dry as no weather system is expected to affect the Peninsular Indian region. In fact, the capital city of Tamil Nadu may witness above normal temperatures resulting in warm as well as uneasy conditions. Humidity levels will also be on the higher side due to the city’s proximity to the sea.
