Post Monsoon season has marked rain deficiency for the eastern parts of the country. As a whole, the deficiency for entire East and Northeast India has been recorded at 59%.
If we talk individually, Bihar has remained deficient by 75%, followed by Jharkhand by 71% and West Bengal by 55%. However, Odisha has performed well with its rain deficiency recorded by only 13%.
The credit for good rains over Odisha can be given to Cyclone Titli which had significantly resulted into heavy to extremely heavy rains over the state during the last week of October. Since then, the weather across entire Odisha has remained almost dry.
At present, minimums are above normal by 2℃-3℃. Moreover, easterly winds are blowing over entire east India. These winds will cause minimums to increase marginally over the areas in the coming days.
With the continuation of these easterly winds, minimums will not show a drop for at least next 3-4 days. As a result, commencement of winters will get delayed over all the eastern states.
By the second week of December, we expect temperatures to start dropping over entire eastern states. Until then, minimums will remain slightly above normal.
