As winters are almost on the verge of knocking doors for the northern region of the country, the hilly states of India are also waiting to witness some good snow spells.

Snowfall normally commences from the month of November over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh along with a few places over Uttarakhand. The reason being that as by November, intensity of Western Disturbances starts increasing and starts traveling in lower latitudes between 30-35° north.

Gradually by December and January, their intensity increases further and moderate to heavy snowfall occur over most of the hilly states of the country. But this year, no significant snowfall activities over these hilly terrains have been observed yet. However, isolated snowfall has been witnessed by upper reaches of Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.

However, now, a Western disturbance is expected to reach Jammu & Kashmir on November 20 paving way for possibilities of some scattered snowfall from November 20-22. Since the intensity of this Western Disturbance will be high, more areas are likely to be covered by this weather system in terms of snow and rain.

This will further lead to a drop in both the day and night temperatures over northern plains including the states of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and NCR, North Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh after November 23.
