The wind direction has changed over Delhi and its adjoining areas since the last evening. Warm and dry westerly winds have been replaced by humid easterly winds and cloud cover has increased. All these factors are making the conditions favourable for much-awaited Monsoon rains over Delhi and NCR area. After a prolonged dry spell, the anticipation for Monsoon showers has doubled and it seems mother nature has finally given ears to the prayer of Delhiites.

According to Skymet Weather, Delhi and its adjoining areas such as Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad are all set to experience a spell of Monsoon rain. The intensity will, however, be light today and tomorrow. This change in the weather conditions can be attributed to the Trough that has already started to travel in the south direction, from the foothills of the Himalayas.

From July 17, the intensity will gradually increase and the residents of Delhi and NCR area would finally get to see some good Monsoon showers. In the wake of this rainy spell the maximum temperature that was settling close to the 40-degree Celsius mark, will subside, thus making the weather pleasant and comfortable.

Although these Monsoon rains would not be heavy in nature initially, chances of one or two intense spells of rain on July 17 and 18 cannot be ruled out.

Along with Delhi, the other parts of the northern plains such as Southwest Uttar Pradesh, South Punjab, South Haryana, and North Rajasthan will also get to see rain and thundershower activities. These showers would be helpful in pulling down the soaring temperatures in the region.
