Wait for Monsoon over Gujarat gets longer

Gujarat is one pocket of the country that witness large variations for the arrival of the Southwest Monsoon. The onset of the Monsoon over the state barring Kutch region depends on the movement of the western arm of the Monsoon.

This year, western arm of the Monsoon has been weak in absence of any significant Monsoon system and has not even reached Mumbai yet. Skymet Weather has already predicted that post the onset of Monsoon, its progress will be sluggish.

With this, Gujarat will have to wait little longer for the arrival of Monsoon as we do not expect it to reach before June 22.
Normally, Monsoon arrives over Gujarat by June 15. While, the Kutch region welcomes it almost after 15 days by June 30.

Besides Monsoon evading the western state, pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers have also been missing this season. The state has been practically dry from June 1 to June 14, as Gujarat was 100 % rain deficient.

However as we proceed further, we can expect rains to make a comeback around June 20. A fresh Monsoon system is brewing in west-central Bay of Bengal, which will activate the Monsoon current along the West Coast.

This will also increase rains over the Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, Konkan & Goa and even some parts of Gujarat.
