Meanwhile, the city of Nawabs, Lucknow, and Fursatganj in Uttar Pradesh also witnessed scattered dense fog in the morning hours. The visibility dropped to 500 meters at both the places.
Northern parts of Madhya Pradesh and the northeastern parts of the country also observed dense fog. The visibility slid down to 200 meters both in Gwalior and Imphal. Delhi-NCR too reported moderate fog with the visibility of mere 300 meters.
However, condition improved rapidly after the sunrise. As per Skymet Weather, fog would continue to prevail over Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and in some parts of Madhya Pradesh for the next few days. In fact, some coastal stations and hills of North India may also observe fog of varying intensity.
According to weathermen, weather across northwestern plains have now cleared up. So, whenever nights are clear, then due to outgoing longwave radiation, the surface of earth cools down rapidly. This leads to condensation of air near the earth surface.
If winds are light and temperatures are low, it results in the formation of fog during the late night or early morning hours. This is very common in Indo-Gangetic plains and northeastern parts of the country.
