Since last few days, on and off scattered light to moderate Monsoon rains have been occurring over the state of Andhra Pradesh. Though in the last 24 hours, the intensity of these rainfall activities differed in several areas of the state. The weather over the entire state had also taken a U-turn and have resulted in comfortable but humid weather conditions.
Thus, in a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Vijayawada recorded 19.3 mm of rainfall, Kalingapatnam 18.2 mm, Kakinada 17.4 mm, Kurnool 8.7 mm, Visakhapatnam 4.8 mm, Machilipatnam and Ongole 4 mm.
These weather conditions can be attributed to a low-pressure area which is seen persisting over Odisha and adjoining areas. The axis of Monsoon trough is also seen extending from Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh and East Madhya Pradesh towards East Central Bay of Bengal.

This Monsoon trough is likely to move further in the south direction. Another trough is seen extending along the East Coast and is moving from South Odisha up to North Tamil Nadu Coast. Due to the shift in the Monsoon trough, light to moderate Monsoon rains over Andhra Pradesh are expected to continue during the next 24 hours.

Thereafter, these widespread rainfall activities over the state are likely to witness a downward trend. Accordingly, the intensity of these rainfall activities is also expected to reduce significantly. However, comfortable weather conditions are anticipated to continue for the next few days. As on August 18, the sub divisional of rainfall distribution statistics shows that Andhra Pradesh is rain surplus by 9%.
