Vijayawada receives 47 mm rains during last 24 hours, more rains ahead for entire Andhra Pradesh

Rains are continuing over Andhra Pradesh for quite a few days now. During the last 24 hours, North coastal Andhra Pradesh has received moderate to heavy showers. Vijayawada has received heavy rains of 47 mm. Scattered light to moderate rains occurred over Rayalaseema at places such as Nandyal and Anantpur. While Nandyal recorded 5 mm of rain, Bapatla 1 mm and Narsapur received 2 mm rains.

Till now, Rayalaseema is performing quite well during the post-Monsoon season. As on October 10, Rayalaseema is running rain surplus by 21%. On the other hand, coastal Andhra Pradesh is deficient by 22%.

The reason for these rains can be traced back to a Trough which is extending from Gangetic West Bengal to Rayalaseema. Therefore, light to moderate rains and thundershower activities are likely to continue over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema during the next three to four days. Although, as the Trough is not very prominent, any widespread rain activities are ruled out. We expect only patchy rains that will last for an hour or so.

Weather will remain mainly warm and day temperatures will remain in the range of 30 to 33 degrees. Minimum temperatures over Rayalaseema will be comfortable in the range of 21 to 23 degrees. Coastal Andhra Pradesh will have comparatively warmer nights.

After 48 hours, the intensity of rains will reduce over Coastal Andhra Pradesh as well as Rayalaseema. On and off rains will continue although with a reduced intensity.

These rains will gradually merge with the rains of Northeast Monsoon which will most probably make an appearance around the end of the third week of October.
