With Northeast Monsoon getting vigorous, heavy to very heavy rainfall and thundershower activities lashed many places along with the coastal parts of Tamil Nadu. In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Saturday, Parangipettai 124 mm, Tondi 85 mm, Atiramapattinam 83 mm, Palayankottai 80 mm, Karaikal 77 mm, Chennai 70 mm, and Thanjavur 57 mm.
Interior parts of Tamil Nadu also experienced light to moderate rain and thundershower at many places during this time. All these weather activities occurred due to the presence of a Cyclonic Circulation over the Comorin area and adjoining regions. Besides this, a low pressure area is marked over Southwest Arabian Sea, while another low pressure area would form over Southeast Arabian Sea by today. This system is likely to intensify more and will be moving in the North-Northwestward direction.
Due to the presence of these significant weather systems, the state of Tamil Nadu will experience heavy rain and thundershower at many places during the next 12 to 18 hours. Places like Chennai, Vellore, Madurai, Coimbatore, Salem, Kodaikanal, Dharampuri, Rameshwaram, and Pamban would experience moderate to heavy showers during the next 18 to 24 hours.
Thereafter the intensity of the rains will start decreasing gradually. However, the coastal parts of South Tamil Nadu will receive more rainfall activities as compared to the other parts. With this, the day temperatures will decrease significantly.
Moreover, these rains will be very beneficial for crops such as coconut, groundnut, paddy sugarcane and etc. Simultaneously these rainfall activities would also improve the groundwater level.
