Monsoon has been vigorous over Northeast India for the last couple of days and last 24 hours were no different. Several parts of the region, especially Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh has recorded moderate to heavy rains, with extremely heavy rains.
Not only this, Sikkim and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal has also recorded torrential rains.
Cherrapunji in Meghalaya has witnessed record breaking 447.8 mm of rain in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday. This is also the highest rainfall seen in span of 24 hours on record.
According to Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to the Monsoon trough which is presently running close to foothills of Himalayas for the last 48 hours.
As we move further, the trough will gradually start oscillating towards south. In wake of this, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura that have been recording light to moderate showers will now witness increase in intensity of rains.
Meanwhile, good Monsoon rains will continue over Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh but with reduced intensity.
