Vigorous Monsoon has given heavy to very heavy rains in parts of Konkan and Goa in a span of just 24 hours. Thane recorded 190 mm rainfall, followed by Ratnagiri 136 mm, Alibag 133 mm, Santa Cruz (Mumbai) 131 mm, Harnai 94 mm, Colaba (Mumbai) 80 mm from 8:30 am on Monday.
Mumbai rains occurred with good intensity, while moderate showers were seen in parts of Vidarbha. The meteorological division of Marathwada also received isolated rains but most parts of Madhya Maharashtra remained dry only.
At present, a Low-Pressure Area is over the Odisha Coast. This would give the pull effect along the West Coast and activate the Monsoon Surge. Moreover, a wind shear zone is extending from Konkan and Goa up to West Central Bay of Bengal. In addition to these systems, a Cyclonic Circulation is over the Gujarat region.
Due to all these systems, Monsoon would remain active over Konkan and Goa including Mumbai and suburbs for another 48 hours. Meanwhile, Vidarbha may receive moderate rains with one or two heavy spells.
During this rainy episode, parts of Madhya Maharashtra such as Jalgaon, Nashik, and Malegaon may receive moderate showers. However, the intensity in Pune would remain light only.
Parts of Marathwada adjacent to Vidarbha would get to see one or two moderate spells for the next 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter, the intensity may decrease, but on and off rainfall activities would continue in Vidarbha and Konkan and Goa.
