Torrential rains continue to lash Maharashtra, more in offing
Fairly widespread heavy Monsoon rains continued to lash most parts of Maharashtra for the second consecutive day. While coastal areas recorded heavy to very heavy rains, interiors of the state have received moderate to heavy showers.
Mumbai also recorded three-digit rainfall again on Friday, wherein Colaba saw 104 mm of rain in span of 24 hours till 8:30 am on Saturday.
In addition to this, Harnai and Mahabaleswar have also recorded extremely heavy Monsoon rains of 286 mm and 237.6 mm, respectively.
This was followed by Bhira at 94 mm, Malegaon 54 mm, Dahanu 48 mm, Udgir 48 mm, Ratnagiri 47 mm, Alibag 45 mm, Parbhani 42 mm, Nanded 30 mm, Amaravati 28 mm, and Pune 10 mm.
According to Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which was prevailing over Vidarbha and adjoining areas. Now the system has shifted over South Madhya Pradesh.
With this, rains will now reduce over Vidarbha and Marathwada but scattered light to moderate cannot be ruled out.
Meanwhile, the cyclonic circulation will continue to impact the weather over Coastal Maharashtra and parts of Madhya Maharashtra. We can expect moderate to heavy rains to continue over both the regions, with isolated extremely heavy rains as well during the next 2-3 days.
Mumbai will also record good Monsoon rains during the same time frame.
Monsoon has been vigorous over most parts of Maharashtra for last two days, especially over the coastal parts. All thanks to the low pressure area which was marked over Vidarbha and adjoining Marathwada region.
According to Skymet Weather, entire Maharashtra has received fairly widespread rains, varying from moderate to heavy during the last 24 hours.
Mumbai has also received very heavy Monsoon showers, wherein the city has recorded 80.9 mm of rain in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday. Dahanu has also witnessed extremely heavy rainfall of 347 mm in 24 hours, which is not very uncommon for the city. Five out of last 10 years, the city has recorded three digit of rainfall during the month of September.
This was followed by Harnai 101.4 mm, Washim 86 mm, Parbhani 60.2 mm, Aurangabad 48.6 mm.
Now as we proceed further, the low-pressure area has become less marked but the associated cyclonic circulation still persists over the area. Therefore, we expect, good rains to continue over entire Maharashtra for the next 24 hours. Thereafter, intensity of rain will reduce over Marathwada and Vidarbha, however, Coastal Maharashtra will continue over heavy showers.
Places such as Dahanu and Raigarh may record heavy to very heavy rain during this period. Skymet Weather predicts that the rainy spell will continue for another 2-3 days.
At present, almost all the regions of the state- Marathwada, Vidarbha, Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra are either rain surplus or normal. Now with more rain in offing, we can expect rain surplus to increase further.
Since last two consecutive years, Marathwada and parts of Madhya Maharashtra had been witnessing deficit rains. But this year, both the regions have managed to record normal rains.
