After remaining on the backfoot, Monsoon 2017 has once again picked up pace over Kerala and Goa. In fact, Monsoon was vigorous along the West Coast, bringing heavy to very heavy showers over most parts of Kerala as well as Goa.
In a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Kochi has recorded 86 mm of rain, Punalur 74 mm, Thiruvananthapuram 69 mm, Alappuzha 52, Kozhikode 51 mm, Karipur 41 mm, and Cannur 68 mm.
Meanwhile, Sanquelim in Goa received 118 mm, followed by Valpoi 82.4 mm, Pernem 78 mm, Panjim 70 mm, Mapusa 65.2 mm, and Margaon 60 mm.
All thanks to the development of the off-shore trough running along the West Coast from South Konkan & Goa to Kerala. In fact, a cyclonic circulation was also seen over Coastal Karnataka and adjoining areas.

Both the systems had kept the Monsoon surge active over the region. Although the cyclonic circulation has now merged with the trough weather conditions will remain conducive for moderate to heavy showers to continue over the coastal states on Monday.

Thereafter, the intensity of rains will reduce but moderate showers are likely to continue for next few days.
As on September 18, Kerala is witnessing normal Monsoon rains with -9%. Similarly, Goa is also observing normal Monsoon with rainfall at -18%. In wake of this rainfall, we expect rainfall figures to improve further. However, weathermen do not expect excess rainfall.
