During the last 24 hours, good amount of rains have lashed many places over coastal parts of Saurashtra and Kutch. Also, light to moderate rains and thundershowers occurred over rest parts of Gujarat.
While Okha recorded a whopping 99.7 mm of rains, Dwarka recorded 77.3 mm, Porbandar 83 mm, Veraval 29.8 mm and Bhuj received 14.6 mm.
The state has been witnessing good rains since the last many days now. Due to the occurrence of these rains, Gujarat region is surplus by 17 % and Saurashtra and Kutch is surplus by 34% as on September 7.
Presently, a Cyclonic Circulation is persisting over Saurashtra and Kutch at mid-tropospheric levels while an off-shore Trough is extending from South Gujarat to Kerala coast.
Due to the presence of these systems, the Southwest Monsoon will remain vigorous over the entire state of Gujarat. Moderate to heavy rains at many places with very heavy rains at isolated places are likely to continue over the state for the next 48 hours.
Places like Bhuj, Rajkot, Amreli, Porbandar, Vairaval, Kandla, Mahuva, Bhavnagar, Valsad, Navsaari, Junagarh, Ahmedabad, Surendranagar and Surat might witness heavy showers.
Due to the occurrence of these rains weather will remain humid yet comfortable due to the prevalence of a cloudy sky.
These rains are beneficial for ongoing crops. However, flood-like conditions at some places might pose a problem for the present cropping systems.
