As had been forecast by Skymet Weather yesterday, Monsoon remained vigorous over West Bengal and heavy to very heavy rains occurred over many districts during the last 24 hours. Moreover, the eastern state of West Bengal has been receiving moderate to heavy showers during the last few days now.
Going by the recorded data, during the last 24 hours, Siliguri has received 132 mm of rains, Contai 135 mm, Kolkata 81 mm, Midnapore 111 mm, Canning 79 mm, Jalpaiguri 93 mm, Darjeeling 60 mm and Purulia received 42 mm rains. Also, moderate showers were observed over many other parts of the state.
At present, a Cyclonic Circulation is persisting over Andhra Pradesh coast. Also, a Trough is extending up to Gangetic West Bengal. Moreover, an East-West Trough is extending from East Uttar Pradesh to Sub-Himalayan West Bengal at mid-tropospheric levels. Also, strong humid winds from Bay of Bengal are feeding moisture over the state. The combined effect of these weather systems have resulted in heavy downpour over the state.
Now, also we expect moderate to heavy rains to continue over many parts of the state today as well. Moreover, one or two very heavy spells cannot be ruled out. Although the rain intensity will start reducing tomorrow, we expect light to moderate showers to continue thereafter as well.
Gangetic West Bengal may continue to receive good rains for at least the next two to three days, whereas Monsoon will remain subdued over rest parts of the state.
