Monsoon continues to be vigorous over East Uttar Pradesh for the last couple of days. In wake of this, the region, particularly foothills, have been recording heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.

According to Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to an upper air cyclonic circulation seen over Bihar and adjoining East Uttar Pradesh. Moreover, axis of Monsoon trough is also running through the foothills of Himalayas, further enhancing the rain activity.

Further, both the systems will continue to trigger heavy to very heavy Monsoon rains for the next 24 hours. Places like Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, Khushinagar and Siddharthnagar will witness good rain activity.

In wake of these ongoing rains, East Uttar Pradesh that has been rain deficit so far, is now surplus by 7%. With more rains in offing, we expect this surplus figure to increase gradually.

However, these rains have also triggered flood-like situation over several parts lying in the foothills of the region. Local rivers like Sarau and Ghaghra are already is over flowing and these heavy rains will aggravate the situation further.
