As predicted by Skymet Weather, most parts of Vidarbha such as Buldhana, Washim, Akola, Yeotmal and Nagpur have received good rain and thundershowers during the last 24 hours. Severe hailstorm activities along with strong winds were also witnessed at several places. In fact, the hailstorm carried on for half an hour at a stretch.

These unseasonal rains over the Western Vidarbha, especially hailstorm, have resulted in severe crop damage. As per the primary reports, crops such as Wheat, Bengal Gram, Jowar, Orange, Grapes, Mango, Papaya, Pomegranate, Onion and other vegetables have incurred huge losses.
Further, the threat of crop damage over standing field crops is yet not over. Weathermen are predicting more spells of rains and hailstorm over parts of Maharashtra during the next 24 hours. Thus, as suggested earlier, farmers are recommended to take care of standing crops.
Thereafter, the trough is expected to weaken, thus dry and cool northerly-northeasterly winds will commence again.

The reason for these ongoing rains could be attributed to the wind confluence zone over Vidarbha and Marathwada which was formed due to the merging of humid winds from Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea. Moreover, a trough is extending from Northwest Rajasthan up to Vidarbha region.
If just rains had occurred, there wouldn’t have been much damage to the crops. However, hailstorm and gusty winds have resulted damage on a large scale. Not only this, causalities were also reported due to severe hailstorm.

Prior to this episode of rain, the weather remained dry over Vidarbha, with which maximum temperatures had mounted and settled well above normal.
In regards to temperatures, both maximums and minimums have already dropped significantly over most parts of the region. As of now, the weathermen expect days to remain pleasant, while nights would be cool.
