Many places in Vidarbha received moderate to heavy rains on Saturday. In particular, the eastern districts have received good rains.
Now we expect that moderate rains, with heavy at few places, will continue for next 2 to 3 days over the region. Gradually, parts of Marathwada will also receive moderate to heavy showers.
The recent rains are due to the influence of the cyclonic circulation which is now lying over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha region. As a low pressure area is expected to develop over the region, rains will further increase over these areas.
During last hours, Bramhapuri received 46 mm of rainfall, Chandrapur 34 mm, Gondia 20 mm, Nagpur 4 mm and Wardha received only light rains.
The entire Monsoon season, on and off rains have been continuing over Vidarbha. However, after August 10, rainfall became subdued over most parts of Central and Peninsular India. Thereafter, Southwest Monsoon rains were mostly confined to East India.
Only scattered light rains have been witnessed over Vidarbha during the last one month, taking the cumulative rainfall deficiency to 3% at present. The ongoing spell of rainfall could help Vidarbha recover and end up with normal rains at the end of the Monsoon season.
