At present, Active Monsoon conditions are continuing over many parts of Maharashtra. During the last 24 hours, fairly widespread rains of occurred over Vidarbha. Moderate to heavy rains lashed parts of Konkan and Goa and South Madhya Maharashtra. Scattered rains occurred over Marathwada as well as over North Madhya Maharashtra. Satara and Kohlapur once again received moderate to heavy rains. In fact, these two districts have been receiving good rains since the last eight to ten days leading to flooding in many areas.
Now, heavy to very heavy rains are expected over Vidarbha during the next 24 to 48 hours, until August 8. Rains will also increase over North Madhya Maharashtra as well as North Konkan and Goa. Increased rains over Vidarbha will be due to the westward movement of Deep Depression which is at present over Northwest Bay of Bengal.
At present, the region of Konkan and Goa is rain excess by 48% whereas Madhya Maharashtra is largely excess by 64%. Although, Marathwada and Vidarbha are still rain deficient. While Vidarbha is rain deficient by 6%, Marathwada is deficient by 18%. However, these upcoming heavy rains can bring the rain deficiency of Vidarbha at par, very soon. Till now, Monsoon is turning out to be very good over the entire state except for the region of Marathwada.
The city of Mumbai will also experience these upcoming rains. Rain activities are expected to increase over Mumbai and Suburbs by the evening of August 8. Heavy rains are expected over Mumbai and adjoining districts of North Konkan and Goa until August 9.
