Until the end of August, Maharashtra received good rains. In fact, particularly in the third week of August, many parts of the state saw moderate showers with a few heavy spells.
Maharashtra is divided into four meteorological divisions and by the end of August all these meteorological divisions were rain surplus except Marathwada which was at par.
Konkan & Goa and Madhya Maharashtra were surplus by 8%, Vidarbha by 3% while Marathwada received normal rainfall.
The month of September witnessed subdued rainfall activity throughout the state and the rainfall surplus of Konkan and Goa dropped to 3%. Rest all regions are now below in the normal category. Madhya Maharashtra stood at below normal by 2%, Vidarbha by 7% and Marathwada by 14%.
Now we expect weather to remain dry, although North Konkan and Goa might witness light rains at few places. Vidarbha may receive scattered rains between September 16 and 18.
Thereafter, weather will once again become dry and rains are expected to revive by September 21. Between September 21 and 23, Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan and Goa may receive good rains. So, we can say that the month of September is not very encouraging for Maharashtra in terms of rainfall.
