During the last 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rains have occurred over many parts of Coastal Odisha. While Bhubaneswar recorded 126 mm rains, Balasore 104 mm, Puri 50 mm, Paradip 66 mm, and Keonjhar received 45 mm rains. These rains have triggered flash floods and waterlogging at many places.

The Well- Marked Low Pressure Area which is over coastal Andhra Pradesh is instrumental for these rains. This Well Marked Low Pressure Area is moving in North-Northwest direction towards North Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha. Therefore, heavy to very heavy rains will continue over Odisha today as well.

By tomorrow, the rain intensity will start decreasing but light to moderate with a few heavy spells are possible over many parts. The rain intensity will further reduce by October 26.

By October 27, a further decrease in rain activities will sue in as the system fades away and moves away eastwards. During that time, we expect only some light scattered rains over Odisha.

Going by the numbers, as on October 24, Odisha is rain deficient by 78%. However, these numbers are set to reverse by the end of this rain episode. We expect these rains to make up for the deficiency. Moreover, there are chances that the state might even turn rain surplus.
