East India continues to reel under the dense to very dense fog for several consecutive days now. Varanasi and Gorakhpur reported very dense fog with the visibility dropping to nil.

Situation was no different at Allahabad and Lucknow that also observed dense fog with visibility of 400 meters and 200 meters, respectively. In wake of this, at least 68 trains were running behind the schedule.

According to Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation has been prevailing over East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar that has been infusing moisture over the entire region. Due to persisting fog, minimum temperatures have been settling below normal over quite few places along with light wind speed. All these factors are conducive for the formation dense fog over the region.

Moreover, we do not foresee any relief from the dense fog in the coming days as well.

Meanwhile, dense fog continues to abate most parts of northern plains with good visibility conditions. But isolated places such as few parts of Delhi and Punjab are still witnessing dense fog due to localised factors. For instance, Delhi in general remained fog free but Palam Observatory reported dense fog with visibility of 100 meters only.

As per the weathermen, places that are located in the foothills or close to water bodies are prone to dense fog.
