Dense to very dense fog finally engulfed Delhi and adjoining areas of Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad on Monday morning i.e. February 4. This is for the first time in the season that entire national capital region has witnessed very dense fog.

Palam Observatory had reported nil visibility, delaying departures at the Delhi airport today. Train services too have been affected with at least 27 trains towards Delhi running behind the schedule.

The density of fog was so deep that visibility did not even clear by 9 am in the morning. Palam Observatory was still reporting visibility of around 50 meters.

As per the weathermen, clearance would come slowly, with sun rays making their way but that would be anytime before 10 am or even late.

According to Skymet Weather, fog was expected to make an appearance two days back but failed to do. This was on account of moderate northwesterly winds, which did not let the formation of fog. However, winds have now slowed down, along with low minimum temperatures and increase in moisture levels due to an approaching Western Disturbance. All these factors were conducive for the formation of fog.

Similar conditions will stay for the next 24 hours and Delhi-NCR might see another round of dense fog on Tuesday morning. However, with rains expected from Tuesday evening onwards, fog would once again say good bye to the city.

So far, Delhi NCR has been missing its famous foggy mornings. In fact, in this season, not even a single day had witnessed this widespread fog. However, some days only isolated parts of the region did witness thick fog but that too for very short duration.
