Pre-Monsoon season in India showcases different temprements for different divisions of the country. This can be confirmed so well during this year's pre-Monsoon season as well.
The contrasting weather in India can be traced from the fact that while the northern, central and northwestern parts of the country have mostly remained dry, the eastern half of the country, including the northeastern states are constantly recording some good showers.
In terms of temperatures as well, the states of North, Northwest and Central India are reeling under intense summer heat. In fact, with heatwaves being a constant feature in a few pockets, the temperatures of Northeastern states are on a continuous dip.
As per Skymet Weather, Northeast India is one of the rainiest pockets of the country during both pre-Monsoon and Southwest Monsoon season. However, so far in the season that spans from March until May, has been dormant for all the states of the region with deficit rainfall, the major brunt being borne by Arunachal Pradesh.

On the other hand, the rainy episodes, as well as the intensity of pre-Monsoon activities over North and Northwest India including over Delhi and NCR, Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, has also remained on a lesser side. Here, the pre-Monsoon season is generally related to thunderstorms, dust storms, thundershowers and then some light to moderate spells.
Let us take a look at the rainfall deficiency of Northeast and Northwest India:
However, the month of May brought some bountiful rainy sessions for Northeast India as it began on a wet note. Moreover, from the past one week, the intensity has picked up the pace and light to moderate with some heavy spells have been observed by the region. For Northwest India also, May brought some light rains along with thundershowers, thunderstorm and lightning strikes.
In general, rains in the month of May for Northeast India normally gets registered in three digits, seldom settling below 250 mm.
As of now also, moderate with isolated heavy to very heavy rains are expected to continue over almost the entire Northeast India. Any breaks in terms of rains are not foreseen, though the intensity may vary until the arrival of Southwest Monsoon.
On the other hand, Northwest India may also brace for some dust storm, thunderstorm, and thundershower activities along with some rains today. This would continue until May 9. Moreover, the intensity and spread of these pre-Monsoon activities would increase on May 8. And by May 9, the rain intensity would start dipping with clear weather on cards form May 10 onwards.
