Uttar Pradesh has been receiving good rains since past few days due to the persistent weather systems over the state. The intensity of rains is light at present. Places like Varanasi recorded heavy rains in the last two to three days. In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Tuesday, Varanasi recorded 38.3 mm rain, Lucknow 21.8 mm, Sultanpur 16 mm, Bareilly 13.9 mm and Allahabad 12.2 mm.
It is anticipated that many parts of East Uttar Pradesh will receive good rains for the next 24 hours. As per Skymet Weather, the well- Low Pressure which is over Jharkhand has given heavy to very heavy over Southeast Uttar Pradesh. Now, the system has intensified into a depression, which will enhance the rains over the eastern parts of the state.

However, West and Central parts of Uttar Pradesh will witness scattered light to moderate showers. The rain intensity is likely to increase over many parts of East and West Uttar Pradesh around July 29 due to the northward shifting of the axis of Monsoon trough. The trough is currently passing through central parts of the country. It is extending from Southwest Rajasthan till the Bay of Bengal across North Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal.

Light to moderate rains may continue till August 1 and 2 over cities like Varanasi, Allahabad, Kanpur, Gorakhpur. At present, East Uttar Pradesh is deficit by 13 percent rainfall, while East Uttar Pradesh has experienced normal rains.
