Saturday saw torrential Monsoon rains lashing East Gujarat, with Valsad recording 214 mm of rains in span of 24 hours. This has led to flash flooding over the city. This is not as the city might see some more torrential Monsoon rains.
These three-digit rainfall is not unusual for the Valsad during the Monsoon season. However, rains have decreased over Saurashtra and Kutch regions.
According to Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is marked over South Gujarat coast, which has been responsible for these ongoing rains. The system would continue to give moderate to heavy rains over Vadodara, Surat, Narmada, etc for the next 12-18 hours, precisely till Monday morning. The river in the region is already flowing above the danger mark, thus local flooding would also persist.
Thereafter, the system is now seen weakening, due to which rains would also decrease. However, light to moderate rains would continue. Meanwhile, the weather would be warm and dry over Saurashtra and Kutch regions in the coming days, with chances of only isolated rains.
Gujarat region has been witnessing normal Monsoon rains, with slight surplus of 2%. However, Saurashtra and Kutch have been highly rain deficient to the tune of 47%. Thus, the region would have really work hard to cover up the deficiency.
