Vadodara has been a dry city during the entire month of June. The city has hardly seen any rains during the last couple of days. However, last 24 hours have remained bountiful over the city as it has recorded highest rainfall in the span.
The city has witnessed first heavy showers of 62.2 mm during last 24 hours on Monday which is the highest single day rainfall in the last 10 years. Prior to this, the city observed highest rainy spells of 60.8 mm in the year 2015.
With these showers, the temperature of the city which was initially settling above 40°C mark has seen a huge dip. Maximum temperature recorded for Vadodara during last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday was 36.8° C.
The normal monthly average rainfall for the city is 118.6 mm. But the city has seen light spells of more than 62 mm only till date in the entire month of June. Therefore, monthly normal rains are expected to remain deficit. However, more light to moderate rains are foreseen for the remaining days of June. Thus Vadodara will witness a dip in temperature, settling in mid-30°C.
Other parts of Gujarat that have witnessed moderate to heavy rains during the same span as mentioned above include Rajkot, Porbandar, Dwarka and Okha.
As Monsoon has made its delayed onset over Mumbai, Gujarat will also be observing a late Monsoon arrival. However, witnessing these heavy pre-Monsoon showers on Monday, it can be concluded that Monsoon arrival may be expected shortly.
