Rains have been playing havoc with most parts of the hills of North India. It was not a tale of past when torrential rains triggered landslides the famous tourist spots of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The famous holy shrine Vaishno Devi also wore the brunt of unsettled weather conditions resulting in landslide claiming a life too recently.

The blame for such kind of weather condition across the hilly terrains of North India is to be worn by Western Disturbance that has been giving moderate to heavy rains over these hilly states which are predicted to continue.

In fact, light to moderate with isolated heavy spells have even been recorded in all the three states of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand in the last 24 hours as well. However, the intensity of rains was much more over Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh as compared with over Jammu and Kashmir.

In a span of 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Sunday, Dharamsala recorded 52 mm of rains, Dehradun 28 mm, Nainital 26 mm, Mandi 12, Mussorie 12 mm, while Jammu recorded 4.8 mm of light rain.

However, as of now the Western Disturbance which is over North Jammu and Kashmir is expected to move away eastwards. Thus, it is likely to give scattered light to moderate rains over Uttarakhand and at a few places over Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

However, rains may increase over Uttarakhand on July 5 and 6. But Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir will continue with light rains. During this time, the Western Disturbances are feeble in nature and normally travels in upper latitude, therefore, rains due to these weather systems are also light in nature.

Hence, it can be concluded that some good spells are likely over Uttarakhand in the next 2-3 days which may once again trigger landslide and flashflood in some areas. However, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir will have a comfortable weather with occasional light rains for the next 2-3 days.
