Uttarakhand has been experiencing almost dry weather with isolated rain for the last few days. But the situation is going to change very soon.
These rains will be attributed to the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal will move in North West direction towards Madhya Pradesh. Along with this, a trough will develop from the low-pressure area over Madhya Pradesh to Uttarakhand.
The interaction of the trough with western disturbance may induce moderate to heavy rain along with heavy snowfall over many parts of Uttarakhand. Rain will begin on October 5, and will increase around October 6. Peak intensity is expected on October 7. Rain and snow may continue until October 8. Thereafter intensity will be reduced significantly.
The rains will be seen from east to west, which means the Kumaon region will begin receiving rain and snow first and then the Garhwal region will see some rainfall activity.
The Hill above Kedarnath Dham has witnessed an avalanche recently. At around 6:30 a.m. on October 1st, a large piece of ice broke off from a Glacier between Kedar dome and Swargarohini and fell near Chorabari lake.
As the avalanche occur approximately 5 km away from Kedarnath Dham that is why there was no damage. The occurrence of avalanches is common in The Hills of Western Himalayas. The upcoming snowfall may also induce a few avalanches in Uttarakhand, but this will be after the rain and snow episode. Initially, the region will be prone to mudslides and landslides in the coming days during the time of rains
