Uttarakhand Mishap: Better weather conditions ahead

July 5, 2016 11:40 AM | Skymet Weather Team

Inclement weather conditions in Uttarakhand for the past five days have been wreaking havoc over residents and tourists of the state. Cloudburst, landslide and flash floods together have definitely thrown life out of gear.

Massive damage to life and property has also occurred due to this unfortunate incident. Death toll has risen up to 40 until now. Several national highways were blocked due to landslides. Also, the annual Char Dham Yatra suffered a setback due to incessant rains over the region.

Due to cloudburst in the state, over 900 villages in Uttarakhand were out of power. While some areas did witness some improvement and started getting electricity, about 90 villages in Chamoli and close to 50 in Pithoragarh still remain without power.

In Pithoragarh’s Bastadi village, a 500-metre long landslide can still be seen. However, now weather conditions seem to be improving. During the last 48 hours, the state has not witnessed very heavy rainfall.

Also, the next few days will not pose a threat for the state as rains are likely to remain light in nature and weather conditions will remain much better. Good showers are only expected during the weekend, which is why residents can heave a sigh of relief.

Rescue and relief operations which were constantly being affected due to inclement weather conditions will also be able to function properly. Hindrance in terms of weather is not expected in the coming days.
