Uttarakhand landslide kills 2; Himachal Pradesh also under heavy rain and flood warning

Both the states of Uttarakhand as well as Himachal Pradesh have been witnessing light rains for the past few days. However, moderate to heavy rains have made a comeback over many parts during the last 24 hours.

So much so that heavy rainfall activity in Uttarakhand triggered a massive landslide on the Nainital- Almora highway. Due to this, at least two people were killed. Another landslide occurred at Khairna wherein a JCB was buried under the debris.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Shimla and Dharamsala, each recorded 54 mm of rainfall. Other areas to have witnessed good rains include Hamirpur 21 mm, Kullu 8.8 mm, Manali 8.4 mm, Dehradun 7.7 mm, Joshimath 12 mm, Mussoorie 12 mm, and Tehri 17 mm.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, heavy rains are expected over the states of Himachal Pradesh during the next 24 to 48 hours. In fact, moderate to heavy showers will continue over both the states throughout the week. Though intensity of rains will vary from time to time.

The possibility of landslides, cloud burst triggered due to heavy rainfall activity over the region cannot be ruled out. These hilly terrains are prone to such weather activities during the Monsoon season.
