Skymet Weather which is India’s largest private weather forecasting agency has always believed in providing accurate weather forecasts to end users. These end users include farmers, insurance companies, and other agro-based industries.
Ann Marie Yastishock, USAID’s acting Deputy Assistant Administrator for Asia along with Idris Diaz, India’s acting Mission Director visited Skymet’s Noida office, today. They visited an AWS installation site near Delhi and gripped information on USAID-supported program ‘Partnership in Climate Services for resilient agriculture in India’ which is helping Indian farmers to adopt the climate change impacts.
Skymet Weather has a wide list of forecasters chaired in its office who are reckoned for their precise and correct weather predictions. The company also has approx. 4,000 AWS installed at various locations across India. In addition to that Skymet Weather now provides weather forecast for around 5,61,000 villages.
The duo also went on to interact with some of the Indian farmers from Sirsa. Ann Marie Yastishock also spent time with Jatin Singh, CEO, Skymet and his squad to understand the process of deriving the weather data from the AWS to the servers. She also took interest in understanding how quality control measures are deployed and how the information is finally dispersed to the farmers through mobile applications and SMSs.
