The duo states of Punjab and Haryana are gearing up for a spell of rains in the coming days. A fresh Western Disturbance is expected to approach the Western Himalayas soon, which will at first bring along light rains over isolated parts of Punjab and Haryana, starting by the night of February 5. Gradually, the rain intensity will increase and spread over many more parts of Punjab and Haryana.
On February 6 and 7, we expect moderate to heavy rains at many places over both the states. Meteorologists at Skymet expect this to be the heaviest spell of the season for Punjab and Haryana. There are bright chances of hailstorm at many places along with strong winds. Lightning and thunderstorm will only make things worse.
One bad news for the farmers allover Punjab and Haryana is that these rains combined with hailstorm and gusty winds might pose threat for their standing crops. Farms of mustard and wheat might have to face the maximum severity of the weather. Although as not all areas are prone to such conditions, the severity of damages might vary.
Further watch-
By February 8, rains will take a backseat as the Western Disturbance and the induced Cyclonic Circulation over Northern Plains responsible for these weather activities will start moving away eastwards over Uttar Pradesh.
This season, almost all the active Western Disturbances that approached Jammu and Kashmir gave good rains over Punjab and Haryana but the intensity and spread remained more over Punjab. This is exactly the reason why Punjab is currently running rain surplus by 13% however, Haryana remained deficient by 21%.
