A Western Disturbance is approaching the Western Himalayas and simultaneously an induced cyclonic circulation is prevailing over Central Pakistan and adjoining Punjab region. Good rainfall activities are expected over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. But, Uttarakhand will receive isolated rains.
Due to the cyclonic circulation overPunjab, scattered light rain and thundershowers are expected over parts of Punjab including Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Bhatinda and Chandigarh. These places could receive a couple of short spell of rain and thundershowers. These rainfall activities will be very light but widespread. This could lead to some relief from the ongoing high temperatures.
On Wednesday,Chandigarhrecorded 38.2°C as maximum whilePatialasaw the mercury rise up to 38.7°C.Amritsarand Bhatinda are also recording temperatures around 35.5°C. These day temperatures are 2 to 4 degree Celsius above normal average. After the spell of forthcoming rains inPunjaband other parts of North India, temperatures will return to normal levels.
Rainfall activities will commence from late evening hours of April 21 and weather conditions will clear up after 2 days. The wheat crop has already been harvested over most of the places in North India. Therefore, moisture will be restored in the soil which will be beneficial for the next season or Kharif crops. Moreover, this will not pose any danger to the Rabi crop as they have already been harvested.
