The National Capital Region like Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad witnessed last pre-Monsoon rains on May 3. Since then the weather has been dry and the day temperature has been settling above normal. On May 9, the maximums recorded at the Safdarjung and Palam Observatory were 41.8°C and 43.6°C, respectively.
Presently, moderate to strong westerlies are blowing across the northern plains including Delhi-NCR, leading to heat wave like conditions. According to meteorologists at Skymet, relief from ongoing hot weather is expected as a Western Disturbance is approaching Jammu and Kashmir. Its induced Cyclonic Circulation is over Central Pakistan and adjoining West Rajasthan.
Now, isolated dust storm activities are expected to commence over Delhi and its adjoining areas by May 11, and continue till May 12. These activities will be during late afternoon or evening hours and will be at few places only. However, between May 13-16, the intensity of dust storm would increase and might cover many parts of Delhi and NCR. During this period, thunderstorm activities could be a sight. Despite dry weather and low humidity levels isolated incidents of hailstorms cannot be ruled out. This is because the convective clouds that develop during pre-Monsoon season are capable of creating hailstorm.
These pre-Monsoon activities would definitely pull down the maximum and minimum temperatures in the region for almost a week and bring huge relief to the people facing extremely hot conditions.
