Upcoming low pressure in Bay of Bengal to become depression, may turn into a Cyclone

November 13, 2021 2:31 PM |

After remaining calm in the month of October, the Bay of Bengal has become active once again in November. In the last week of September, Cyclone Gulab was formed. The remnants of the same had gone into the Arabian Sea, becoming Cyclone Shaheen.

Talking about the month of October, not a single storm had formed. The first depression formed in the Bay of Bengal in November and brought heavy rains over Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh including Chennai. Now once again, a new low pressure area is about to form over South Andaman Sea which will move in west-northwest direction and become a depression by November 15. At present, the sea surface temperature in the Bay of Bengal is favorable for it to become a cyclone.

This upcoming depression will move towards Andhra Pradesh state and it may also turn into a deep depression. This depression will move rapidly towards the state of India, so it will not get the opportunity to stay in the sea for a long time. Therefore, the chances of it turning into a typhoon are less visible. However, Skymet is keeping an eye on the system and will keep giving information about it from time to time.

Even if it does not turn into a storm here, heavy rain in the form of depression or deep depression in Andaman and Nicobar Islands is expected till November 15. From November 16 to 18, its effect will be seen over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, West Odisha, South Chhattisgarh and Telangana wherein some parts may see heavy to very heavy rains. Between November 15 and 17, the winds will remain strong over Andhra Pradesh, and sea conditions may remain rough.

The months of October to December are favorable for the formation of cyclones and depressions in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. In the Indian seas such as the Bay of Bengal, the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea, 13 countries give their names to the storms which are Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Myanmar, Oman, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Iran, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United States of America, respectively. Arab Emirates and Yemen. If a storm is formed in these seas, then its name will be Jowad which is given by Saudi Arabia.
