The city of Kolkata has been receiving rainfall activity of varied intensity for the past few days. In fact, there have been days when moderate rains have lashed the capital city of West Bengal. So much so that on July 22, the City of Joy recorded a whopping 77 mm of rainfall.

During the last few days as well, light to moderate rains have been occurring over the city of Kolkata. A day before, Kolkata recorded 0.3 mm of rains, while during the last 24 hours, rains were moderate in nature with the city seeing 18 mm of rainfall during the same time frame.

These rains have been occurring due to the weather system persisting over the Northwest Bay of Bengal in the form of a cyclonic circulation. The axis of Monsoon trough is also passing through the state of West Bengal. Due to these systems, moisture incursion has been taking place over the city of Kolkata.

Now, the circulation is expected to intensify into a low pressure area soon and even move inland due to which Kolkata is likely to see some moderate to heavy rains during the next 24 to 48 hours.

Temperatures are also expected to remain on the lower side settling in the early 30s. Minimums will be settling in the mid 20s giving the residents relief from prevailing weather conditions.
