The spell of unseasonal rain over Maharashtra does not seems to be coming to an end any time soon. The state has already witnessed quite number of rainy spells this season on account of back to back induced cyclonic circulations.
After lashing the state on last weekend, another induced cyclonic circulation is approaching the region which will be giving more rain during March 8 and 9. Post that, another fresh system moving across south Rajasthan and adjoining Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh will add some showers between March 11 and 13.
In wake of the reoccurring systems, maximum temperatures have registered a significant drop and have been settling below normal by two to seven degrees for last couple of days. The monthly average temperature for the region hovers between 36°C and 37°C.
Let us have a look at the temperatures in Celsius for the affected cities:
Note: Minus sign indicates below normal degrees
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, these temperatures, which were just crawling back to normal, will once again take a dip due the rain likely during next 24 to 48 hours.
The rainy spell on 8th March is expected to impact the output of Rabi crops in several parts of Maharashtra.
Moreover, the hailstorm at the year end, followed by unseasonal rainfall during February and then the incessant rain in past few days have damaged the grape production by 50% in Nashik and other districts including, Satana, Sangli and Malegaon. There is a possibility of crops getting infected with pests that will affect the quality of grapes.
