Month of January mostly remains dry for the state of Gujarat. State remains far from the reach of western disturbance affecting north India and the weather systems affecting peninsular India also keep a safe distance. Most prominent cities like Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Baroda and Surat remained totally dry consecutively for the last 6 years. Accordingly, the average monthly rainfall for the state also remains negligible.
Jinx of dry weather conditions during January is likely to break soon. Most parts of the state will witness rainfall between 05th and 07thJanuary 2022. Light to moderate rain is likely, with a large spread on 06th and 07thJan.
Presently, the entire state is experiencing fair weather conditions. Mercury levels are well above the normal values. Day temperatures are reaching 30°C over large section of the state and even the night temperatures are steady in high teens over most places, nearly 5-6°C above the average. Coastal stations like Dwarka, Porbandar, Veraval and Surat are witnessing minimum temperatures in the range of 20°C or more. In brief, the days are slightly warm and nights are pleasantly nippy, specially over North Gujarat and Kutch.
An active western disturbance with its induced circulation is arriving shortly over north India. A week long weather activity is expected to lash most parts of the region. As an extension of this weather system, state of Gujarat is also likely to witness a wet spell between 05th and 07th Jan. Light rain will commence over Kutch on 05thJan and extend to cover other parts on 06th and 07thJan. Rain spread will be large and more strong on 06thJan.
Most parts of the state will find clearance on 08thJan and witness good weather conditions later. In the wake of this wet spell, the night temperatures are expected to dip by 4-5°C. Interiors of North and central Gujarat, along with Saurashtra will observe minimum temperature in the range of 11-12°C by weekend. Day temperature will rise again to resume at about 30°C over most parts.
