The month of February is one of the least rainy months for Gujarat and Rajasthan, but we have seen scattered unseasonal rains during this month. Now, we are in the pre monsoon season. Pre monsoon activities usually commence over parts of Rajasthan during the second half of March. Gujarat remains almost dry during month of March.
Scattered rain and thundershower activities are expected to occur over many parts of Rajasthan and Gujarat in the coming days. Light rain may occur over Southeast Rajasthan on March 7. Between March 8 and 9, many parts of North and East Rajasthan as well as parts of East Gujarat may witness rain and thunder shower activities.
The reason for these rains can be attributed to multiple weather systems. An induced Cyclonic Circulation may form over Rajasthan and a trough is expected to develop from a Rajasthan to north interior Karnataka across East Gujarat and adjoining parts of West Madhya Pradesh as well as via Madhya Maharashtra.
Intensity of rain will be light eastern parts of Gujarat in comparison to Rajasthan. Isolated pockets of Rajasthan may witness strong winds associated with light hailstorm which may lead to damaging the crops.
