Unseasonal Rain and Temperature Drop Across Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab

December 23, 2024 6:05 PM |

Residents of Delhi, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan woke up to a surprise on the morning of December 23rd with light scattered rain. This unusual weather phenomenon is attributed to a Western Disturbance currently affecting the Western Himalayan region.

The Western Disturbance has induced a cyclonic circulation over Punjab and Haryana, leading to scattered rainfall across parts of these states, as well as Delhi and Rajasthan. While the rain is currently light, it is not expected to significantly improve the air quality index of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR).

However, the unseasonal rain is likely to bring a significant drop in day temperatures on December 23rd. Furthermore, minimum temperatures across the Northwest plains are predicted to decrease between December 24th and 26th.

Another Western Disturbance is expected to approach the Western Himalayan region from December 27th onwards, which is likely to cause a gradual increase in minimum temperatures.

A fresh spell of rain and thunderstorms is forecast for the aforementioned states on December 28th.This unseasonal rainfall is expected to be beneficial for crops, as it will significantly increase soil moisture levels.
